This is a question we hear often.
Songtradr's curated playlists are regularly featured on our Buyer page and promoted to our global community via email. It’s a great way to be discovered by prospective buyers, fans, and fellow musicians.
Our music team can discover your music in a variety of ways, either when they are going through the latest uploads, searching specifically for a brief, while they are shortlisting submissions for a Music Wanted or even when our distribution team are processing your releases.
We love featuring the talent of Songtradr artists and while there is no guarantee, here is a quick checklist to give your music every possible chance to be featured:
High quality recordings are a must!
High-resolution audio, sometimes known as high-definition audio or HD audio, is a regularly-used term by the music industry. High-resolution audio includes file types such as WAV and AIFF with a sample rate of 44.1 kHz or higher (often referred to as 44.1kHz/16 bit).
Tag your songs with proper metadata and complete your Songtradr profile
Our curators often use keywords to search for music. Many of our Featured Artists are discovered this way so it’s crucial to spend the time inputting accurate metadata.
Submit for Music Wanteds Strategically
What you submit is just as important as actually submitting. Do not submit randomly! Only submit those songs which you feel best fit the brief. This is a crucial approach as you want industry professionals to see you as someone who understands working to a brief. Remember, you are potentially creating long-lasting relationships and even though you may not win this placement, you may be kept in mind for any future opportunities. More on submitting >
Upload high-resolution, compelling artwork
Yes, it’s all about the music for sure but images are an integral part of your overall brand and rightly or wrongly, a high quality, compelling image tells people how seriously they should take you and your art. In this world of information overload, people will make snap judgments about you from your photo or lack of. You have most likely invested hours, and thus dollars, into your music, so why not your imagery?

Correct copyright settings are everything!
To prepare your songs for licensing and other opportunities, all rights holder approvals must be in place. If not, your songs cannot be licensed or even put forward for potential opportunities. You can achieve this by ensuring all copyright settings are filled out correctly and approved.
Clean up your tracks
Remove any dead silence, gaps or unwanted noise at the beginning or end of the tracks. If you are meticulous with your files, you will avoid delays or issues later down the track e.g. if a potential buyer from a different timezone, needs a clean edit asap while you are sleeping. Be sure to double check your song files before submitting to Wanteds.
Be professionally recorded, mixed and mastered
We’re always looking for the highest-quality versions available. Ensure your music is always well-produced with clean audio at optimum levels i.e. not too soft or too loud so there is distortion. This allows us to confidently pitch for music licenses and feature you on our website and social media platforms.
Have an up-to-date online presence
We often need to find artist information quickly and online resources such as Facebook or Instagram are very useful in helping us assess an artist’s activity and persona. If our team wants to find out more, you don’t want to create roadblocks through missing information or broken links on your profiles.
Attach additional files to your full mixes
Some of the most sought-after items by music buyers are additional files to the full mix. These different versions allow a seamless workflow in the content production process e.g. mixing around dialogue or abiding by network regulations when creating non-explicit content for a family show. Examples of additional files are instrumental mixes, non-explicit versions, versions with vocals added in or no fx (no effects).
Be aware of the most popular genres for sync
Although there is no definitive list of syncable genres, Top 40 is one of the more commonly requested of these, especially in advertising. Essentially, syncable music is high-quality, lyrically appropriate, and dependent on the storytelling needs specific to a project.
Upload WAV files as opposed to MP3.
WAV or AIFF files are high-quality files that most of the music industry use. Click here to learn what audio file formats does Songtradr accept for upload >
