Why does my tax form keep getting voided due to “Invalid TIN”?
Our payment partner will perform TIN Matching with the IRS to check that the provided US TIN and the individual's name are accurate with the IRS records. If they do not match, we will display the TIN as “Not Valid”. Usually, the TIN number or the name is not accurate.
For Foreign TINs for W-8 Forms, we perform validation checks for countries that have published rules for TIN formatting in their country. This covers approximately 85 countries, and includes business or individual entities, the TIN length (minimum and a maximum number of characters), and if it is alphanumeric, numeric-only or alpha only. Make sure there are also no periods, dashes, or spaces. If the Foreign TIN does not meet the published validation rules, we will provide a warning to the user.
For TIN validations, our banking partner uses This Website.
Will I receive a 1099?
We send 1099-MISC forms to rights-holders through our banking partner, Trolley. Forms are required to be sent to those registered as Individuals, Sole Proprietors, Partnerships, and LLCs taxed as a partnership. This would be completed in the W-9 submitted by the individual to Songtradr.
If a person is outside the U.S., they would need to fill out a W-8BEN. Then we would send a 1042 form, not 1099.
Form 1099-MISC is issued to everyone with the exception of corporations. This includes individuals, partnerships, and most professional business entities. An LLC is only considered to be a corporation if it has elected itself to be taxed as a corporation.
